About Simon

Simon Maddrell is a Manx writer, editor, educator & performer. After 12 years in the corporate sector, he set up an international conservation and development charity in 2002 –– running it for 15 years. Simon is a human rights. LGBTQI+ and HIV activist who supports non-profits in advisory and trustee roles.

Simon’s Books

Since 2020, Simon has had six poetry pamphlets and two three-poet anthologies published. His debut poetry collection will be published by Out-Spoken Press in February 2026.

Services

Simon is an experienced editor & mentor who also facilitates technical, craft and wellbeing writing workshops. He offers a range of services from 1:1 mentoring to the development of pamphlet and full collection manuscripts.

Workshops

Simon is an experienced workshop facilitator and educator. He delivers masterclasses as well as craft workshops in poetry, biography & memoir.  Example themes include queer nature, poetry & place, unreliable memory and hero journeys.

Words for Wellbeing

Simon has been trained in delivering creative writing for wellbeing workshops. His specialties are Living with HIV, Growing Up Queer, and Neurodiversity, although he also delivers holistic therapeutic creative writing workshops.

Activism & Support

Simon is a passionate advocate of conservation & development in the World's drylands and a human rights activist, including LGBTQI+ equality and HIV/AIDS support. Simon also supports organisations in consultancy, advisory and trustee roles.
